Akita Castle refers to the ruins of a fortified settlement dating back to the Nara period. Akita Castle was surrounded by earthen walls and had gates at each cardinal point. Archaeological excavations have been found on the foundations of barracks and official buildings of the Dewa prefectural government, as well as ceramic roof tiles, shingle paintings and documents on Glossy paper, and there you will see a traditional Japanese temple and trees flowering in spring, as well as protected villages in ancient times. The site was declared a National Historic Site in 1939.
