Shkodur, historically known as Skodra, is a city located in the northwest of the Republic of Albania, on the banks of Lake Shkodur, the largest lake in southern Europe, near the Adriatic Sea. The city is surrounded by rivers on three sides, the Ker River from the east, and Drin from the south Pune from the west. One of the oldest cities in the Balkans, and the fourth most populous city in the country, the city has a strong influence on the culture, religion, arts, and entertainment of northern Albania. Due to its ancient history, the city is rich in archaeological monuments that embody the influence of the various civilizations that occupied the city, such as the Roman Rozafa Castle, the Abu Bakr Mosque, the Messi Bridge built during the Ottoman era, and the Marubi Museum, which seeks to display Albanian history and heritage throughout the ages.
