Hue, the capital of Thua Thien Hoi Province in north-central Vietnam, has a great imperial history. It was the center of the Nguyen Empire; a feudal dynasty that lasted from the 17th to the 19th century. After Emperor Nguyen Phuc Anh took control of all of Vietnam in 1802, Hue was the capital of the entire country. Today, the city is dotted with palaces, castles, temples and tombs, many of which have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and which bring back the glories of the city's remarkable imperial history. On the other hand, the city also boasts a range of contemporary hotels and elegant restaurants that cater to the growing number of international travelers. One of the symbols of Vietnam, Thien Mo Pagoda is a must-see in this city, while a sunrise stroll along the River of Perfume is the best way to enjoy the city's more creative side.
