Learn about the best tourist sites in Jordan

Contrary to what some people think, the country of Jordan contains many monuments of historical and cultural importance. In this article presented by the Safarway website, we begin by examining the cities crowded with archaeological monuments, some of which UNESCO has placed on its list of World Heritage Sites, and some of which are of such antiquity and historical importance that they contain many landmarks worth visiting.

Petra "the pink city"

It is one of the oldest Jordanian cities, dating back to 312 BC. Petra is distinguished by its colorful granite rocks, and the most famous and most attractive to tourists are the “Wadi Musa Rift” and the carved Al-Khazneh building. Perhaps this city's tourist fame is due to it being one of the Seven Wonders of the World since 2007, and one of the World Heritage Sites according to UNESCO estimates for the year 1985, which made it attract more than a million tourists annually.

Jerash city

One of the oldest cities in Jordan, dating back to 2000 BC, it is distinguished by its streets decorated with columns. It occupies second place in the tourist cities of the Kingdom of Jordan after Petra, thanks to its unique tourist attractions such as: Jerash Antiquities , Horse Square , and Jerash North Theater. The city also includes many museums that enhance this cultural history.

Ajloun city

It is also one of the oldest cities, dating back thousands of years, and is located in northwest Jordan. The city is distinguished by its towering mountain range, in addition to a group of landmarks, the most important of which is Ajloun Castle , which was founded by Commander Izz al-Din Osama in 1184 AD, and which extends from Lake Tiberias to the Dead Sea. Wadi Rum

If you are a fan of safaris, climbing high mountains, or camping, you will find what you are looking for here. During your safari, do not forget to explore the deserts of Rum on horseback or camels, for which the place is famous, as it is a region with a predominantly Bedouin character.

The capital, Amman

Amman is considered the newest city in Jordan, so it is not full of historical monuments like its predecessors, but this does not prevent enjoying a distinctive entertainment atmosphere by visiting markets and restaurants, as well as mosques, in addition to visiting the House of Arts , Al-Abd Palace, the Roman Amphitheater , and the Jordanian National Museum of Fine Arts . As you have seen, Jordan, with its archaeological monuments, reflects its greatness by being an important station in the life of many civilizations and religions. You find the churches of the Byzantine era settled among the mosques of the Umayyad era and the castles of the Ayyubid era, and the landmarks of modern history in the middle of a vast desert and high mountains that are not devoid of the lush trees of Jordan.
