Starting from January 1, 2023, compliance with the standards of the Schengen Area was activated in the Republic of Croatia, after the country became a member of this area. Croatia's visa regime includes all EU acquis and allows the issuance of Schengen visas type A and C, as well as long-term national visas D, at Croatian diplomatic missions and consular offices, from the same date.

Third country nationals, whether or not they require a visa, are permitted to stay in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days during any 180-day period. It is important to know that third-country nationals who hold visas and residence permits from Bulgaria, Cyprus and Romania can enter the Republic of Croatia without the need for a Schengen visa or a Croatian national visa.

Regarding visas, third-country nationals who require a visa to visit Croatia can fill out the visa application form online at crovisa.mvep.hr , with the possibility of submitting applications at selected VFS centers located in several countries.

The place where visas to Croatia are issued is through Croatian embassies or consulates, where they issue Schengen visas types A and C, as well as national residence visas type D.

Types of visas and documents required to obtain them:

1. Airport Transit Visa Type A:

- A permit to transit through the international transit areas of airports in Schengen member states.

2. Short-stay visa type C:

- Permit for an intended stay not to exceed 90 days in any 180-day period.

- Issued for transit, tourism, business, special purposes, or other purposes.

- The application is submitted at the Croatian Embassy or at the Visa Application Centre.

3. Long-stay visa type D:

- It is issued for one or several entries, with a validity period of up to six months and a stay period of up to 30 days.

- The application is submitted before entering Croatia at the Croatian Embassy or in the VFS Global Visa application.

Documents required to submit a C visa application:

- Completed and signed visa application form.

- A valid passport.

- A recent personal photo.

- Travel medical insurance.

- Proof of visa fees paid.

Documents required to submit a D visa application:

- Completed and signed visa application form.

- A valid passport.

- Travel medical insurance.

- Proof of grant of temporary residence or residence and work permit in Croatia.
