British Visa electronic travel permit system for Qataris

Starting from the end of October 2023, the State of Qatar will be the first to enable its citizens to use the new electronic system for travel permits.

The British Home Office announced that it has selected the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Jordan to be the leading countries in the world whose citizens will be able to benefit from this system starting in February 2024, while Qatari citizens will have this privilege starting from October 25 of this year.

It has been confirmed that the new system, known by the acronym ETA, will completely replace the previous e-visa system, and will be extended to include all countries whose citizens do not require a British visa for short-term tourism by the end of next year.

In a statement by the Ministry, it was explained that citizens of the countries included in the new system will be able to submit a request for an entry permit to the United Kingdom through an easy and fast electronic application that allows them to obtain entry permit quickly.

Qatari visitors will be required to obtain an electronic visit permit if they intend to travel to the UK from 15 November 2023, but they will be able to apply in advance from 25 October 2023.

This digital travel permit was available online to Qatari citizens holding Qatari passports, allowing them to visit the United Kingdom. However, from 25 October 2023, it will be necessary for Qatari nationals wishing to travel to the UK to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), which will replace the previous Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) programme.

Therefore, Qatari citizens intending to travel to the UK from or after 15 November 2023 will need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), and the Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) program will no longer be available to them.
