The Venetian fortress of Parga is located on top of a hill overlooking the entire city. It was used to protect the city from the mainland and the sea. It was initially built in the eleventh century by the inhabitants of Parga in order to protect their city from pirates and Turks, but it was partially destroyed due to invasions of this kind. And in the thirteenth century, the Venetians rebuilt the castle to fortify the area, and in 1452, the Turks occupied Parga and destroyed part of the castle, and then in the sixteenth century, it was rebuilt for the fourth time by the Venetians who made it a strong fortress, and they built eight towers outside the castle and cisterns To supply the castle with water in times of war, and today, Parga Castle is one of the most prominent examples of Venetian architecture, as it contains some interesting details such as the Venetian lion in the entrance, the emblems of Ali Pasha, the double-headed eagles, some inscriptions, and the secret path to the sea.
