Established in 1974, Tarutao National Marine Park covers an area of 1,490 square kilometers in the far south of Thailand off the coast of the Andaman Sea in Satun Province. It consists of 51 islands in two groups; Tarutau group to the east and Adang-rawi group to the west, there are three archipelagos in the park; The Tarutau Archipelago, Klang Archipelago and Adang Archipelago, the park's name is derived from "Palau Tertau", which means "old island" in Thai.
