Information about Ichkeul National Park
Lake Ichkeul is the last large freshwater lake in a chain that once stretched along North Africa, and is an indispensable stopover for hundreds of thousands of migratory birds in winter. It has been declared a protected national park in northern Tunisia, containing important natural habitats for more than 200 animal species and 500 plant species, and the very unique location of the lake made it a distinct environmental phenomenon, as the lake area represents the meeting point of six major valleys in the region, which causes a high percentage of fresh water in the lake in the winter, while in the summer the water level drops The six valleys give way to the entry of the waters of the Mediterranean, thus raising the water salinity, heralding a new phase of wildlife and animal life on their banks.
